Axel was described as a grizzled old white biker imprisoned for armed robbery. When Dexter tries to force the survivors out of the prison, Axel stands up for them.

Being the only of the four convicts to remain with the survivors over the majority of the story, he eventually finds their trust through hard work and earnest commitment.

He has a brief relationship with Patricia after being shot in the arm during the first prison assault. After helping the survivors set up defenses, he is shot in the head, an early casualty of the second prison assault.

Dexter was a towering, physically intimidating African-American inmate at the prison where the group takes residence.

Convicted of murdering his wife and her lover, whom he states, "were the last". He ironically trusts the other survivors far less than they trust him.

He has a covert relationship with Andrew, but is purely in said relationship for sex. After the murders of the Greene twins, Lori leads the group to wrongly lock him up on account of being the only convict known to murder.

After Thomas is revealed to be responsible and not receiving any apology, he loses his patience and orders Andrew to scavenge the prison's riot gear.

Amidst the confusion with Thomas, Dexter gathers Andrew and a defecting Patricia with their new riot gear to force out the survivors. He is soon after killed discreetly in a skirmish against zombies by Rick, who covers it up as a friendly fire mistake.

Thomas was a nerdy man who claims to be in federal prison for tax evasion which he claims is not his fault. He is actually a homicidal lunatic who murders two of Hershel's daughters by decapitation and attempts to murder Andrea before he is beaten senseless by an enraged Rick.

Patricia attempts to free him so the other survivors would not hang him, nearly getting herself killed in the process. He is later shot repeatedly by Maggie Greene after his attempted escape.

His deceased body is thrown to the zombie hordes outside of the prison. Michonne is a katana-wielding survivor who saves the life of Otis and thereafter joins Rick's group at the prison.

Over the course of the series, she finds herself repressed and unhappy over the deaths of her loved ones, believing she doesn't deserve any happiness or a chance to start over, due to the pain of leaving her daughters behind, assuming they've been killed along with her ex-husband, Dominic.

She journeys to Alexandria with the group and after two years, returns from a long sea voyage. She is the supposed leader of The Kingdom after the death of Ezekiel, but is currently helping at the Hilltop Colony after delivering a near-dead Aaron.

Mike was the reanimated boyfriend of Michonne who is used for camouflage with the other zombies. In the Michonne special, it is revealed that Mike and Terry met up with Michonne before staying in a secluded house where a zombie tried to gain entry and bit him in the arm.

He is decapitated by Michonne when she gains entry into the prison, but she still speaks to him nonetheless. Rosita was a woman who joins up with Sgt.

Abraham Ford and Eugene in their mission to reach Washington D. She is a foil to Abraham's potential brutality; kind, gentle, and understanding, capable of neutralizing and abating Abraham's emotional instabilities or inhumane talk and urges.

After Abraham has an affair with Holly, she moves in with Eugene and begins a relationship with him. She mourns Abraham along with Holly after his death.

After two years, she is pregnant but tells Eugene he is not the father. After Alpha marks a border between the Whisperers and the other communities, Rosita is one of the many casualties who has been decapitated with their reanimated head on a spike.

Abraham was a Sergeant in the U. Sometime after the zombie crisis began, Ford came into contact with Eugene, who claimed he had information that Washington D.

Teaming up with Rosita and Eugene, Ford is now on a mission to get there, intending to solve the zombie crisis after Eugene reveals he has crucial information about the zombie's origins.

He is murdered by Dwight, a member of the Saviors. Eugene is a high school science teacher who has lied about being a scientist working on a cure for the outbreak disease in order to receive protection from others.

He is known for his intelligence, as he knows how to make bullets, and he contributes to the group by suggesting ideas to Rick.

He lived with Rosita and they were in a relationship, but he is not the father of her child but promised to raise him as his own. However, Rosita is one of the victims at the hand of The Whisperers.

After her death, Eugene becomes distraught, but eventually finds a woman on the radio he built who says she is from Ohio.

Gabriel was a priest who comes across the group after leaving his church, where he had been hiding from the undead.

The group is very suspicious of his story, and does not trust him. He had survived over several months alone in the church by turning away his followers and any other civilians when the zombie attacks started, saving him from internal conflict.

As a consequence, however, he now feels remorse. Since arriving at the Safe-Zone, he believes that God's plan for him has been to meet the survivors so that he could eventually preach at the Safe-Zone's church.

He eventually redeems himself. During the conflict with the Whisperers he joins Rick's army, training intensively with Dwight and proving to be an excellent shot.

While at the guard tower, the Whisperers approach with a zombie herd. Gabriel tries to warn Rick but falls and breaks his leg. Begging for mercy, Beta disembowels him, leaving him for zombies to feast on.

The Walking Dead comic book and the television series based on it are regarded as separate continuities. Therefore, characters and events appearing in one have no effect on the continuity of the other.

Grimes dichiara agli altri Salvatori che all'interno delle mura di Hilltop hanno un medico che potrebbe salvargli la vita, ma in cambio loro dovranno ritirarsi e nominare un altro leader.

Negan, ancora vivo, lo atterra e i due combattono a mani nude. Il gruppo di Jesus interviene e combatte contro i Salvatori, Negan spezza una gamba a Rick, e poco prima che Andrea gli spari, perde i sensi e si accascia a terra.

Dwight afferra Lucille e la solleva in aria, dichiara ai Salvatori che se vogliono sopravvivere dovranno seguire il suo volere.

Durante una regolare procedura di spostamento di un gregge di vaganti effettuata da Jesus e altri incaricati a cavallo, un gruppo di sopravvissuti viene attaccato dagli zombie e uno dei loro membri soccombe.

I superstiti superano una prima ispezione da parte di Jesus, e nonostante questi nutrano dei sospetti lo seguono fino ad Alexandria dove incontrano Rick.

Si confida spesso con Negan presso la prigione di Alexandria, e a dispetto di quello che pensa quest'ultimo, Carl lo ucciderebbe comunque se ne avesse l'occasione.

I due Grimes a bordo di un carro trainato da cavalli lasciano Alexandria diretti ad Hilltop. Durante il viaggio vengono sorpresi da un gruppetto di vaganti, Rick non riesce ad eliminarli a causa delle proprie menomazioni fisiche, costringendo Carl ad intervenire.

Rick non accetta scuse dall'uomo, e letteralmente lo percuote col bastone che usa per camminare da quando Negan lo ha azzoppato.

Quella notte Magna e compagni entrano nella prigione e trovano Negan. Non credendo alle menzogne che racconta loro, questi lo abbandonano e lasciano l'edificio.

Il giorno successivo i Grimes raggiungono Hilltop, dove vengono accolti da Maggie, ormai divenuta madre di Hershel, un bimbo di due anni.

Un uomo viene ricoverato d'urgenza, si tratta di Marco, uno degli esploratori di Hilltop. L'uomo riprende i sensi e si ricorda di aver abbandonato Ken: i due erano usciti in esplorazione ma si erano addentrati in una zona non sicura, vennero sopraffatti dagli zombie e persero i cavalli.

Riuscirono a sottrarsi per miracolo ai vanganti, ma furono costretti a nascondersi in una fossa, una posizione molto pericolosa data la vicinanza tra loro e i non morti.

Marco si tappa le orecchie: ricorda distintamente di averli sentiti sussurrare tra di loro. Asserisce che i morti sappiano parlare.

Carson lo mette a riposo forzato, Maggie ordina che una squadra si metta immediatamente alla ricerca di Ken. Seguendo le indicazioni fornite da Marco il team di ricerca formato da tre uomini trova il granaio dove costui si era rifugiato assieme a Ken.

Diversi vaganti costringono il team a mettersi in formazione d'attacco, quasi tutti i vaganti vengono sistematicamente uccisi.

Due membri del team vengono trucidati da due zombie armati di lame, questi durante lo scontro sussurrano frasi di senso compiuto.

Dante viene sorpreso da un altro di questi armato di fucile. Durante un giro di controllo Jesus e altri uomini a cavallo si incontrano con Darius, uno degli scout di Alexandria, vengono a sapere che uno dei suoi compagni manca all'appello da mezza giornata.

Preoccupato, Jesus e gli altri sondano la zona circostante alla sua ricerca. Finiscono per sconfinare in una parte a loro sconosciuta, vengono attaccati da dei vaganti, tra i quali si celano degli umani mascherati da zombie.

Darius viene ferito e cade da cavallo, gli altri ad eccezione di Jesus vengono uccisi a coltellate. Quest'ultimo riesce a ribaltare la situazione a suo favore, salva Darius e cattura una ragazza mascherata.

Mentre Carl parla con Sofia ad Hilltop, una coppia di bulletti li attacca, Sofia viene gravemente pestata, Carl furibondo massacra entrambi con un badile.

Sopraggiungono Jesus, Darius e la prigioniera. Il secondo, assieme a Sophia, viene condotto dal dottor Carson , entrambi sono privi di sensi. In infermeria giungono anche i due ragazzini quasi picchiati a morte da Carl portati d'urgenza dai rispettivi genitori.

In assenza di Jesus, Lydia e Carl hanno modo di parlare molto, e conoscersi. Intanto Sophia riprende coscienza e conferma la versione dei fatti raccontata da Carl, quindi viene liberato da Maggie.

I genitori dei due attaccabrighe cospirano con Gregory per eliminare sia Maggie che Carl, ritenendoli entrambi pericolosi per Hilltop.

La leader di Hilltop acconsente alla scarcerazione della ragazzina, a patto che Carl la segua costantemente e sia responsabile per essa.

Con un tranello Gregory invita Maggie nella sua abitazione e la avvelena, Jesus li scopre e arresta l'uomo, tuttavia Maggie non muore.

Nel frattempo Carl e Lydia hanno un rapporto sessuale. Davanti ai cancelli di Hilltop si palesa Alpha, la donna leader dei mascherati assieme ad un piccolo esercito, per contrattare uno scambio di prigionieri.

Lydia viene portata fuori da Hilltop, sebbene sia questa che Carl siano contrari. Lo scambio avviene senza problemi di sorta, Carl litiga furiosamente con Maggie, il dottor Carson specifica che sia Dante sia Ken hanno ricevuto le cure appropriate da quella gente, certamente sono dotati di personale qualificato.

I due uomini appena liberati non sanno nulla di quelle persone: sono sempre stati tenuti in una tenda, ma dai rumori che hanno sentito potrebbero essere migliaia.

Senza avvisare nessuno Carl lascia Hilltop all'inseguimento di Lydia. Dante viene inviato a ritrovarlo. Il ragazzo viene trovato dalla gente di Lydia nel bosco, la quale lo invita tranquillamente a seguirla.

Quando arrivarono gli zombie, non fece in tempo a raggiungerle che erano sparite. Dopo di che Maggie decide, non vedendo alternative, di uccidere Gregory, in quanto ha ancora delle persone dalla sua parte ad Hilltop e potrebbe ancora tentare di ucciderla.

Rick, Michonne e gli altri tornano ad Alexandria dove i Salvatori li attendono. Rick gli suggerisce di indire delle elezioni, poi, come abitudine dopo ogni viaggio, si reca alla cella di Negan.

Andrea nota che la donna se ne va in lacrime, Rick, in privato rivela ad Andrea cos'ha fatto. Non deve compiere la scelta facile, ma quella giusta.

Per avere un mondo civile bisogna non uccidere, altrimenti torneranno ad essere com'erano una volta: ad uccidere per sopravvivere. Ad Alexandria comincia la fiera, evento per cui hanno lavorato settimane se non mesi per organizzare tutto.

La donna rivela a Rick della fuga di Carl, l'uomo sbotta ma si calma quando sente che Gregory ha attentato alla vita di Maggie.

I due leader organizzano una spedizione guidata da Dante che conosce bene quei territori, a cui aderiscono anche Andrea e Michonne. Nel frattempo si vede Alpha aggirarsi per le bancarelle della fiera, vestita come una persona comune.

Rick viene portato all'accampamento dov'era stato condotto Carl, il ragazzo non vuole andarsene senza Lydia. Sopraggiunge Alpha con un machete insanguinato, Rick temendo per Michonne ed Andrea la minaccia, per tutta risposta viene colpito al viso.

Alpha gli ordina di seguirla, la donna lo fa camminare tenendogli puntata una canna di fucile alla schiena fino a quando entrambi, soli, raggiungono un edificio.

Saliti sul tetto gli mostra una gigantesca orda racchiusa tra degli edifici. Sono sotto il suo controllo, ha degli uomini infiltrati in essa che guidano il gregge.

Alpha informa che da Rick non vuole nulla se non che li lascino in pace. Alpha e i suoi Sussurratori invece, hanno abbracciato una filosofia di vita contraria, quella originale.

Rick e Alpha tornano all'accampamento, il primo vuole portare via di peso il figlio, ma quando questo lo informa delle violenze carnali a cui viene sottoposta Lydia, Rick trasale.

Sulla strada del ritorno vedono dei bastoni in lontananza, Alpha ha letteralmente tracciato il confine con dei paletti su cui ha disposto le teste delle persone che ha decapitato alla fiera col suo machete, approfittandosi magari di un momento in cui erano rimaste sole.

Con orrore Rick ha modo di vedere che tra i decapitati ci sono Ezekiel, Rosita, il fratello minore del dott.

Carson, Olivia e Luke uno del gruppo di Magna. Rick e compagni si occupano di terminare le teste zombificate dei propri amici e conoscenti, Michonne per poco non uccide Lydia dalla rabbia.

Decidono di seppellire le teste, i corpi, a detta di Lydia, saranno stati presi dai Sussurratori per essere spellati. Tornati ad Alexandria, Rick annuncia l'accaduto a tutti i presenti, e le conseguenze erano ovvie.

Una delle persone desiderose di vendetta menziona il fatto che probabilmente Maggie gestirebbe la cosa in modo migliore.

Successivamente Rick, Maggie, Jesus e Dante si ritrovano per discutere, e il primo riesce a far confessare alla donna che fine ha fatto fare a Gregory.

Quando si rende conto di aver fatto del male ad un disabile, Maggie si ferma. Lei e Rick si scambiano delle scuse. Quindi la notte stessa Andrea prende la ragazza e Carl, e i tre si recano ad Hilltop.

La stessa notte Rick sorprende Michonne mentre si intrufola in casa, anche lei voleva portarla al sicuro. Rick e Michonne conversano e l'uomo riesce a farle, in parte, superare la perdita di Ezekiel.

Alpha, nascosta in un bosco vicino, ha modo di ascoltare tutto, e si mette a piangere. Un suo compagno la vede, la conforta e poi le raccomanda di non far sapere a nessuno che ha pianto, altrimenti la sfideranno per il ruolo di leader.

La donna uccide l'uomo proprio per evitarlo. Rick raduna le persone presenti ad Alexandria per informare tutti che procederanno con cautela riguardo ai Sussurratori, hanno bisogno di conoscere quantomeno il loro numero prima di sferrare un attacco.

Il leader di Alexandria riporta l'ordine con un colpo di pistola. La sera stessa si reca alla cella di Negan per avere una sua "opinione" sulla situazione.

Negan gli consiglia di approfittare del nemico comune per unire tutti e di conseguenza affermare la propria leadership.

Una donna di nome Laura, infatuata di Dwight, lascia i Salvatori assieme a lui. Uno dei due, Vincent, cerca di fermare l'altro quando questo tenta di uccidere Rick si erano messi d'accordo per spaventarlo e basta, e spingerlo ad attaccare i Sussurratori subito.

L'uomo, per salvarsi, addenta la gola del suo aggressore e lo uccide, poi perde i sensi mentre Vincent fugge.

La mattina seguente Maggie trova Rick in terra, l'uomo viene soccorso e riprende i sensi, manda Michonne ad inseguire Vincent a cavallo.

Seguendo la linea di pensiero di Negan, Rick indice un meeting con tutti le persone presenti ad Alexandria. Sfrutta il fatto di essere ferito e malconcio a proprio favore, rivela l'aggressione per mano di due persone dei loro e il suo voler creare una milizia.

Sopraggiungono Dwight, Laura e Michonne con Vincent prigioniero. Rick viene acclamato da tutti i presenti. Tuttavia questo non appena ha l'occasione libera Negan e fugge con lui, mischiandosi col gruppo di Maggie che sta lasciando Alexandria dopo la conclusione della fiera.

Michonne ed Aaron percorrono la strada principale e riescono a trovare le loro tracce dove si sono separati dal gruppo di Maggie, nel frattempo Negan uccide Brandon.

Il ragazzino voleva vendicarsi per la morte del padre, ma anche per quella della madre, avvenuta per mano di Alpha, per questo ha liberato Negan.

Andrea torna ad Alexandria, trova Rick ferito per il pestaggio per mano di Brandon, e scopre dei disordini dovuti alla propaganda anti-Sussurratori messa in piedi da Rick.

Rick si rende conto del problema ma non elimina le scritte, vuole che l'odio e la rabbia della gente si focalizzino sul nemico, non su di lui.

Proprio come Negan, anche loro vengono accolti dal solito gruppo capitanato da Beta, al quale non interessa la loro missione di recupero di un fuggitivo.

Il colosso ferisce all'addome Aaron, Michonne si mette in mezzo ma viene messa alle strette, i due vengono salvati dal gruppo militare di Dwight, inviato in territorio nemico da Rick.

La scena si sposta all'accampamento principale dei Sussurratori, dove Negan riesce a farsi accettare da Alhaa e in poco tempo dimostra di avere una forza e un istinto di sopravvivenza che al gruppo tanto piace, nonostante la disapprovazione di Beta.

Con l'astuzia, Negan riesce ad avvicinarsi ad Alpha, ancora emotivamente scossa dal distacco con la figlia, e approfittando di un momento in cui sono soli la decapita.

Negan riesce a rientrare ad Alexandria e a consegnare il suo dono per Rick, la testa di Alpha. Dwight e Rick pianificano di fermare il nemico e la sua orda fuori Alexandria, Magna e padre Gabriel che si era unito come volontario vengono messi di vedetta, ma quest'ultimo per uno sfortunato incidente perde la vita prima di poter avvisare Dwight e gli altri dell'arrivo dell'orda.

Negan salva Dwight da Beta, in cambio gli viene restituita Lucille e l'uomo si scatena. Beta riesce a scappare aiutato da alcuni alleati, ma perde i sensi per diverse ore.

Nel frattempo Dwight deve vedersela con una seconda orda, e solo tramite un'attenta strategia riescono ad avere la meglio. Al calar delle tenebre questi attaccano appiccando fuoco al posto usando frecce infuocate, ma grazie alle indicazioni di Dante e alla prontezza di riflessi di persone come Carl e Maggie, Hilltop riporta poche perdite.

Beta e i suoi da lontano osservano la disfatta delle proprie truppe, ma Hilltop non ha ancora vinto. All'alba del giorno seguente, Negan si distacca dalla propria amata Lucille, seppellendola e chiedendo scusa alla vera Lucille per aver dato il suo nome ad una mazza da baseball.

I Salvatori osservano da distanza di sicurezza l'enorme gregge di zombie che sfonda il cancello d'ingresso e invade Alexandria.

Dall'esterno Andrea, Eugene, Michonne, Maggie, Jesus e altri mettono in pratica i due anni di esperienza nel manovrare i greggi di zombie.

Col passare delle ore e l'aiuto di Eugene, riescono a far uscire quasi tutti gli zombie da Alexandria e dirottarli verso la costa, dove vengono dati in pasto alle onde.

Nel frattempo Negan costringe Rick a lasciarsi andare, a conversare con lui, Rick ha modo di conoscerlo meglio e di fidarsi maggiormente, tanto che i due si spalleggiano a vicenda mentre liberano i dintorni della casa.

I Salvatori guidati da Sherry si palesano, catturano Dwight e Laura e li portano all'ingresso di Alexandria.

Rick riesce a farli calmare e ad avere una discussione a quattr'occhi con la leader del Santuario. In Rick vede un altro dittatore, un altro Negan che vuole somministrare con la forza il proprio controllo.

Rick mantiene il sangue freddo ma la cosa manda in bestia Sherry che lo schiaffeggia, estrae un coltello e cerca di ucciderlo. Sopraggiunge Andrea che scopre l'accaduto, e poi si accascia a terra, febbricitante.

Andrea viene messa a letto, tutti coloro che la conoscono, Negan compreso, le fanno visita e le esprimono i propri apprezzamenti nei suoi riguardi.

After being shot in the head by Rick before he could reanimate, his body was buried outside the prison. Amy was Andrea's younger sister.

They join the survivor group on the outskirts of Atlanta. Amy is bitten by a zombie in the opening stages of a zombie attack on their exposed camp.

She dies of the bite, and Andrea shoots her in the head to prevent reanimation and buries her in the nearby forest.

Donna was the wife of Allen and mother of twins Billy and Ben. She is strong-willed, loving and caring to her family.

Before the events of the series, Donna made all the big decisions in her relationship with her husband, while leaving the financial responsibilities with Allen.

After the dead rise, Donna and her family join the group of survivors encamped on the outer limits of Atlanta, where she makes a point of resenting that the women of the group herself, Carol and Lori have to take care of most of the group's domestic chores e.

Shortly after, when the group attempts to settle at Wiltshire Estates, Donna is killed by a zombie and her body devoured by more of the undead, leaving Allen permanently devastated.

Ben was Allen and Donna's twin son. He is unofficially adopted by Dale and Andrea after their parents die. He does not seem to understand what is happening in the world as it is and believes zombies to be people too.

On the road to D. The group debates killing Ben to protect themselves, but takes no immediate action.

In the night, Carl sneaks into the van where Ben is locked up, and executes him. Billy and Ben are buried side by side. Billy was Allen and Donna's twin son.

During a zombie attack on the group, Jim, failing to kill one with his gun, grapples with a zombie and violently smashes its head in, his rage over his family's death driving him momentarily insane.

After coming to his senses, he, and the rest of the group realize that he has been bitten on his arm.

Jim is left under a tree on the outskirts of Atlanta, in the hopes that, upon reanimating, he can be reunited with the undead members of his family that may still exist.

Carol was a year-old housewife and the mother of Sophia. She is portrayed as a fragile woman, relying on others for emotional and physical support.

She becomes Tyreese's girlfriend until he cheats on her with Michonne, which contributes to her continuing psychological breakdown. She dies in the prison, feeding herself to a walker tied up for medical observation after convincing herself that the walker wanted to be her friend.

This comes after Tyreese's infidelity and Rick and Lori's rejection of a polyamorous relationship. Her daughter is taken in by Glenn and Maggie.

Sophia is the daughter of Carol and adopted daughter of Maggie, and the longest running female character in the series. Early in the series she develops a friendship and later a relationship with Carl until they are separated within the two different communities of Alexandria and the Hilltop 22 miles apart.

After Carol dies at the prison, Sophia pretends that Maggie and Glenn are her real parents, until she admits she is aware of Carol, and was simply repressing the bad memories around her suicide attempts.

Four years into the apocalypse, and two years after the war with Negan, Sophia and Carl reunite as he becomes a blacksmith apprentice at the Hilltop, and becomes skilled in fighting, She is brutally beaten by two bullies after she tries to stop them from harming another child, before Carl defends her and leaves them in a critical condition.

Glenn was Maggie's boyfriend later husband. Glenn delivered pizzas in Atlanta before the events of the comic which gave him the skills to make supply runs.

On one of these runs, he found Rick and brought him back to the group, reuniting him with his family. He is a key member of Rick's group throughout his life, often acting as a supply runner.

He also makes a very close friend named Heath after the group comes to Alexandria. He is beaten to death with a baseball bat by Negan.

Shane was a police officer and longtime friend of Rick Grimes. After Rick is shot and put into a coma, and the zombie outbreak occurs, he rescues Rick's family and leads a group of survivors, becoming romantically involved with Rick's wife, Lori.

When Rick returns to his family alive, Shane grows increasingly jealous of their relationship, as well as Rick's role in the group.

He is shot in the neck by Carl and is later put down by Rick. Chris was a disturbed, sixteen-year-old boyfriend of Julie, living with her and her father, Tyreese before the zombie crisis begins.

The three eventually join Rick's group in Atlanta's outskirts, and move with them from Wiltshire Estates to the prison. Unbeknownst to the others, Chris exhorts Julie into a youthfully idealistic suicide pact, and haphazardly executes it one night, in the prison, shooting her.

Julie reanimates in her father's arms and Chris shoots her a second time. Tyreese, in furious rage chokes Chris to death, then beats his reanimated corpse until he is nothing but pulverized pieces, which he then burns.

Tyreese later confesses his enraged manslaughter to Rick. Julie was Tyreese's teenage daughter. She is shown to be affectionate to both her father and boyfriend.

The end of the world has not stopped her from seeking independence where she can find it. During the initial stages of clearing out the penitentiary, she and Chris act as babysitters.

Once settled, after having sex for the first time with Chris, she carries out an ill-fated suicide pact with her boyfriend.

She soon reanimates in Tyreese's arms, and almost kills her father before being fatally shot by Chris again. Tyreese was shown to be a devoted father as well as an able-bodied fighter and leadership figure to those around him.

However, he is also a very flawed individual, suffering from emotional fragility. Despite this, he is greatly admired by his fellow survivors and is a role model to Carl, while acting as Rick's right-hand man despite often being conflicted with him on several issues.

He is killed by The Governor outside the prison, being decapitated with Michonne's sword. Arnold was Hershel's second son. He is shown as loyal and reliable to his father.

He is bitten by his brother, Shawn, who had become a zombie and has been kept locked inside the family's barn. He is shot by a distraught Hershel to prevent reanimation.

Billy was Hershel's youngest son. Depicted as in his teens, brash and rebellious, he acts as one of the best shots of the group, second only to Andrea.

Billy ends up having a one-night stand with Carol before she commits suicide, which causes him to feel guilt. He is killed in the final stages of the assault on the prison by the Woodbury Army; his death leads his father to allow himself to die as well.

Hershel was the patriarch of the Greene family and owner of the farm where Rick's group are invited to stay after Carl is shot.

He later joins up with Rick's group at the prison after the farm becomes too unsafe only to be killed during the Governor 's second attack on the prison.

Lacey was Hershel's eldest daughter. She is shown as sarcastic and weary of her father. Lacey shared her love of reading with Carol.

She is killed by the zombies that were kept in the family's barn while attempting to save Arnold. Maggie is Hershel Greene's tomboyish second oldest daughter and Glenn 's lover.

She eventually becomes Glenn's wife and later widow, and takes the role of being a surrogate mother to Sophia Peletier following the suicide of the girl's biological mother, Carol Peletier.

After Glenn's death, she moves with Sophia to the Hilltop Colony. She successfully overthrows Gregory as leader, outing him as a coward for siding with the man who murdered Glenn, only caring for his own safety.

Eventually she becomes the de facto leader of the community as she moves enforcements to save the civilians of Alexandria in the war against the Saviours during the bombings.

Two years after the war, she remains a strong and capable leader, while also taking care of her two-year-old son, Hershel Greene II She continues to come into conflict with Gregory, who orchestrates a plan to kill her with other parents who disagree with her actions towards their sons' injuries after Carl Grimes had beaten them to save Sophia.

Gregory manages to poison Maggie as she is dealing with one of the Whisperer captives, Lydia. The Hilltop is attacked during the Whisperer War arc, and Maggie is forced to lead the survivors to Alexandria.

Rachel was one of Hershel's youngest twin daughters. Along with her sister, she is decapitated by Thomas when alone in the prison barbershop.

Susie was one of Hershel's youngest twin daughters. Shawn was Hershel's oldest son and the first member of the Greene family to be killed by zombies, as shown in the video game adaptation The Walking Dead: Season One.

He is reanimated and locked in Hershel's barn until a cure for the epidemic can be discovered. He eventually escapes the barn and kills his brother Arnold.

Thomas almost kills her soon afterward, but Patricia manages to fight him off until Maggie arrives and shoots him. Rick is wary of allowing Patricia to stay with the group but decides she is ultimately harmless.

She is shot and killed by a member of Woodbury during the final assault on the prison. Andrew was a dreadlocked former drug user who believes God sent the zombie apocalypse to help him "get clean".

Shortly afterwards he is shot by Lilly Caul. Axel was described as a grizzled old white biker imprisoned for armed robbery. When Dexter tries to force the survivors out of the prison, Axel stands up for them.

Amidst the confusion with Thomas, Dexter gathers Andrew and a defecting Patricia with their new riot gear to force out the survivors.

He is soon after killed discreetly in a skirmish against zombies by Rick, who covers it up as a friendly fire mistake.

Thomas was a nerdy man who claims to be in federal prison for tax evasion which he claims is not his fault. He is actually a homicidal lunatic who murders two of Hershel's daughters by decapitation and attempts to murder Andrea before he is beaten senseless by an enraged Rick.

Patricia attempts to free him so the other survivors would not hang him, nearly getting herself killed in the process.

He is later shot repeatedly by Maggie Greene after his attempted escape. His deceased body is thrown to the zombie hordes outside of the prison.

Michonne is a katana-wielding survivor who saves the life of Otis and thereafter joins Rick's group at the prison.

Over the course of the series, she finds herself repressed and unhappy over the deaths of her loved ones, believing she doesn't deserve any happiness or a chance to start over, due to the pain of leaving her daughters behind, assuming they've been killed along with her ex-husband, Dominic.
